Black Cat Studio
San Miguel de Allende
Richard Webb, proprietor

Welcome to the Black Cat Studio! I am a dyed-in-the-wool participant of the Modern Surrealist Movement, spanning 40 years as a painter, print maker, musician, and published author. My artistic and professional path has often led to Mexico, and it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream to establish a studio in San Miguel de Allende.

My vision was to create a space where visiting artists can work, resident artists of San Miguel can study and complete major pieces of art, classes are offered, musical concerts are given, and the gallery is available for exhibitions. A space where kindred spirits can meet, paint, exhibit, and have a great time!

The Black Cat Studio facility is one of the best kept secrets of the San Miguel art community. It is located in Fracc. La Luz on a quiet, safe street easily accessed from La Luciernaga shopping center on foot or taxi. The space was built by Else Huesser Van Arkel, a well-known artist in San Miguel who painted everything from portraits of European royalty to San Miguel market scenes. The space is 2,000 square feet with 16 foot North-lit glass ceiling, garden work area, two bungalows for visiting artists, a kitchen, and a warehouse.

Although Surrealism and Dada are the main fare here, all styles are welcome. Instruction in all facets of design and technique is available. We are facilitators of forward movement and  investigation! Explore the pages above to see class offerings and residency programs.
